Currently entering Series A, not familiar with investment scheme, and very selective in choosing people to contact. The founder is a logical person and has a clear roadmap to plan for his career and business

Workflow with investors:

  • Research on Google with keywords: “Best VC in Hanoi tech industry”
  • A quick review of investor portfolios and evaluate how detailed their past deals are and what statistics are available. This takes 15 mins
  • Intensive research of 1–2 investors, reading articles, and get all information on public media. Then decide on 1 of them and proceed to connect. In the first round, the founder knows that this is his first try, so his main purpose was to know how the process works and gather pieces of knowledge about investments. After getting a connection and mutual trust, he expands his networks using direct references
  • When asked if he would do anything differences if he were to start anew, the founder said this is his optimal plan to approach anything in life. So he would do the same

View on investors:

  • Does not believe in Vietnam investors
  • Trust foreign investors because they provide detail information about past deals and statistics that make it clear what their purposes are

View on the platform:

  • Want to know exactly what is the selling point and what benefits his company
  • Private contact information: not important because all investors disclose their contact and hotline on the website and always hoping to connect to valuable startups due to the small number of startups in VN
  • Endorsement: not important because all investors will give good feedbacks to attract other investors and therefore the credibility is low. Personally, the founder does not trust this information and only believes in the statistics (sales, GMV, growth rate, …)
  • Want more detail information about investors on the platform, similar to what investors provide on their own website: strategy, documents, statistics, money flow
  • Want a guarantee or prediction after filling the registration form, the platform should already have a number of successful matching cases, then consolidate only must-have information that matches a small number of investors in the industry
  • Does not want to register on the platform because they don’t want to cause a bad impression to their brand in case there’s not matching happens after months of registration, people will see their name and judge the brand
